DSP Blackrock Focus 25 Fund

DSP Blackrock Mutual Funds has announced a new NFO scheme Focus 25 Fund which is an open-ended growth scheme which opened for public on April 23, 2010 and will be closed on May 21, 2010 before reopening after one month.  The fund will primarily focus on the top 200 companies in terms of market capitalization and its portfolio will be made up of only up to 25 companies and hence the name!  This is the latest and new fund offer from the house of DSP Blackrock fund house.

Introduction: The DSPBR Focus 25 fund manager is Mr. Apoorva Shah.  Its current benchmark is going to be BSE Sensex

Asset Allocation: The DSP Blackrock Focus 25 being a large cap equity scheme will invest 100% of its fund in equities, also may invest 35% in debt or even may invest 25% in foreign equities.

Objective: To generate superior returns by investing in best of 25 stocks in terms of market capitalization and 80% will be invested in at least the top 200 companies.

Minimum Investment: Rs. 5000 and in multiples of Rs. 1 thereafter.  One can even invest via SIP even during the NFO period.

Options Available: Growth, dividend payout and reinvestment.

Entry and Exit Load: No entry load during NFO or even after the NFO and exit load will be 1% if withdrawn within one year of investments and more than 1 year nil.

Benefits: Being the NFO in the raising markets, by investing in DSP Blackrock Focus 25 Fund you will always be on the disadvantage of being investing your money in peak but still since we should not time the market can prove to be an ideal investment option to start at the base price of Rs. 10 per unit and with the raising market this could prove to be an ideal investment option for those who can digest risks.

Being primarily a large cap fund the benefits outweigh the risks just like its predecessors funds which have been performing outstandingly like the DSP BR Top 100 Fund, HDFC Top 200 Fund, etc.  And with DSPBR’s Focus 25 Fund’s focussed investment approach there is no doubt that the returns might be as good as the other top performing funds in large caps, but surely would be an ideal option for long-term rather than short term.

And being an NFO, try to time your investment at around the end of the closing date i.e., in this Focus 25 Fund’s case it is May 21, 2010 so that you would not have to make your money sit idle for one month and with the new banking interest rate calculation on a daily
